BLOG: The Five Best Places to Look for Bigfoot

Sasquatch, Bigfoot, the Abominable Snowman… whatever you want to call him, this hirsute creature has been the subject of folklore and legend for centuries. And while there are plenty of people who are sure that he doesn't exist, there are just as many who believe that he's out there somewhere, hiding in the shadows and watching us. If you're one of the latter group, then you might be wondering where the best places to look for Bigfoot might be. Here are five of the best places to keep your eyes peeled for Sasquatch.

1. The Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest is probably the most popular (and most well-known) region when it comes to sightings of Sasquatch. There have been reports of sightings in Washington, Oregon, and even as far north as British Columbia. One of the most famous sightings occurred in the summer of 1924 when prospectors in Mount St. Helens reported seeing a large, hairy creature roaming around the area.

2. The Appalachian Mountains

The Appalachians stretch from Alabama all the way up into Canada, and there have been reports of sightings from all across this vast area. One particularly famous sighting occurred in 1967 when two brothers claims to have seen a Sasquatch while they were out hunting near Sherman, New York.

3. The Sierra Nevada Mountains

The Sierra Nevadas are another hot spot for Sasquatch sightings. One famous account comes from 1927 when a group of miners claimed to have seen a family of Sasquatches near their camp in California's Gold Country. Another well-known sighting occurred in 1942 when two forestry workers reported seeing a Sasquatch near Shaver Lake.

4. The Sunshine State

You might not think of Florida when you think of Bigfoot, but there have actually been quite a few reports of sightings from the Sunshine State over the years. One famous account occurred in 2000 when a woman claims to have seen a Sasquatch while she was hiking near Ocala National Forest.

5. The Last Frontier

And last but not least, we have Alaska—another state that's no stranger to Sasquatch sightings. One account comes from 1948 when two men claimed to have seen a family of Sasquatches near their glacier camp in southeastern Alaska. Another sighting occurred in 1995 when two hikers claim they saw a Sasquatch near Rabbit Creek outside of Anchorage.

So there you have it—five of the best places to look for Bigfoot if you're so inclined. Of course, there have been reports of sightings from all across North America (and even beyond), so really anywhere could be potential Sasquatch territory. Who knows? Maybe you'll even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him yourself one day!
