Written Confession: The Phantom 18-Wheeler

The following written confession was submitted via email. Names have been redacted.

…In October 2005 I was working at [a lawn care tools company] on night shift. I knew the plant like the back of my hand; I literally worked probably 2-3 hours out of 8 hour shift per night. This was before smartphones so I would wander around the plant and property to pass time. The only person there was a security guard and at this time I had an assistant helper. We monitored power tools that ran until they broke down (endurance tests).

…While doing an hourly check at the outside trimmers I saw an 18 wheeler come down the drive way to the plant. Nothing abnormal. It didn’t slow down which was sorta strange but I didn’t think anything of it. The guard opened the chain fence gate and the truck kept going instead of stopping to check in. My immediate thought “oh great [the security guard] is going to ask me to go tell the truck to come back and sign in.” And yep she did. I told the asst to let’s go get on the John deer gator and we’d drive around the back of the plant (all fenced in with no exit, one way in and one way out).

We drove around to the back and the truck was not there. I’ll spare the details unless you want more but basically for the next hour or so we drove around the plant perimeter wondering how an 18 wheeler disappears. I saw it. The guard saw it. It looked pretty normal nothing out of the ordinary. And it turned the corner of the plant and never to be seen again. Again, the property was enclosed and I knew that property like the back of my hand.

I am 40 now, a pastor (with a few more spooky stories) but by far this one I think about almost everyday since 2005. I still live in the area and drive past the plant about 4-5 times a week sometimes. Think about that night. Every. Single. Time.
