READ: Loch Ness Monster Sightings in 2026 Are Already Surpassing 2025
The Loch Ness Monster may not be ready to step (swim?) into the spotlight, but 2026 is already shaping up to be a strong year for sightings. According to the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, the latest reported encounter is the ninth sighting of 2026, which means this year has already surpassed all of 2025 with months still left on the calendar. In other words, if Nessie is real, she’s apparently become a little less camera-shy.
The most recent sighting took place on July 21 near Urquhart Castle, where a tourist from Australia reported seeing a dark green, flat-topped head rising from the water. According to the register, the witness then saw two matching humps behind it, followed by ripple lines and white waves about 500 meters farther back, which he believed may have been caused by a tail moving through the loch.
The final detail was the most dramatic: the witness said the tail appeared to swish water over the creature’s head before it disappeared beneath the surface again.
Whether it was Nessie, a trick of the water, or just Scotland reminding everyone it still does mystery better than almost anyone else, the famous loch has once again delivered another sighting to the record books.
