READ: Disappearance of Retired Air Force General With UFO-Linked Research Raises Concern

The sudden disappearance of retired U.S. Air Force Major General William “Neil” McCasland has sparked concern among investigators and national security observers.

McCasland, 68, vanished on February 27 around 11 a.m. after leaving his home on Quail Run Court in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Despite a large search effort involving the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, authorities have not determined where he went or what happened.

Officials believe the retired general—described as an avid outdoorsman—may have headed toward the nearby Sandia foothills, where he often hiked, ran, and cycled. Law enforcement has asked anyone who visited the Northeast Heights or Sandia mountain area on February 27 or 28 to check security cameras or personal footage for possible sightings.

McCasland’s disappearance has drawn attention because of his long career in highly classified military programs. After earning a doctorate from MIT, he worked on advanced defense technologies for decades. His roles included serving as chief engineer for the Global Positioning System (GPS), managing the Space Based Laser Project Office, and leading the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Toward the end of his career, McCasland oversaw special programs at the Pentagon and later commanded the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, a site long associated with rumors surrounding UFO research.

Investigative journalist Ross Coulthart has warned that McCasland’s disappearance could have serious national security implications, noting that the retired general possessed knowledge of highly sensitive U.S. military projects.

Authorities say they are still considering all possibilities and continue to ask the public for any information that could help locate him.
